This unnerving and strangely powerful thriller is Norway’s official contender for this year’s Best Foreign Language Oscar. The drama, written and directed by Joachim Trier centres around a shy young woman who leaves her religious family to attend Oslo University.
When meeting beautiful fellow student Anja, the immediate attraction between the two young women is so intense that Thelma suffers a violent convulsion. As the attraction grows further Thelma has more and more seizures, which threatens others around her.
Thelma senses there is something inside her and she has very good reason to be afraid. As she falls in love, her supernatural powers develop to a frightening level.
After premiering at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, Thelma will be released in US Theatres on 10th November.
