The 59 year old American actress and Talk Show Host made groundbreaking history when she came out on television 20 years ago. At the time, although largely supported by many other stars and members of the public, there was a backlash, with Sponsors withdrawing from her Sitcom "Ellen". The show was eventually cancelled.
Ellen bounced back in 2003 with her own talk show, 'The Ellen Degeneres Show. The show, which Ellen produces, is still a huge success today and rakes in $75 million per year, making Ellen 13th in the Celebrity Rich List.
Ellen is the only woman to have hosted the Academy and Emmy Awards and in 2016, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award, by President Barack Obama.
