And we don't have to wait for a slow build up in this series as Black Lightning's daughter Anissa is already in bed with a flame in Episode 2, which aired this week.
The eldest daughter of Jefferson Pierce (Black Lightning), Anissa, played by actress Nafessa Williams, has superpowers of her own. She is able to render herself bulletproof and can create massive shockwaves when stomping on the ground. She decides to use these superpowers to fight crime and boy, can she kick arse.
The first black female super hero in the first black super hero series on TV will also be getting a love interest in the form of bartender and half Amazonian Grace Choi, who will be played by Pretty Little Liars' Chantal Thuy.
Who is Nafessa Williams?
29 year old American Actress Nafessa Williams is most known for her role as Deanna on the ABC soap opera 'One Life to Live' and as Dr. Charlotte Piel on the CBS drama 'Code Black.'
When The Advocate asked Nafessa how she felt about portraying the first Black Lesbian Super Hero on TV, she declared,
"I'm really honoured. I'm really proud to play a role for young lesbian women to see themselves, and to see how loving and supportive the family is. I believe that family of lesbian and gay teenagers need to see that, if they're struggling with accepting their child's sexuality."
28 year old Canadian born Actress Chantal Thuy, famous for her roles in 'Pretty Little Liars' and 'Madame Secretary' is to play Anaisse's love interest.
