Emma Stone stars as Lesbian Tennis Legend Billie Jean King in "Battle of the Sexes".
The Movie, which premiers today, centres around the challenge match of 1973, between chauvinist Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King.
After winning the 1972 US Open, King, with other tennis players, founded the Women's Tennis Association and began fighting for equal prize money for women.
Briggs, a former Tennis Player and a misogynist, claiming that women should only be in the bedroom and kitchen and "in that order", declared war on Women's Lib by challenging King to a 'Battle of the Sexes' tennis match. The match took place 44 years ago this month and was watched by over 50 million people world wide.
Stone, 28, who had to put on 10lbs of muscle to play one of the greatest female athletes of all time said: "This woman is an absolute icon of equality and LGBT rights|" and
"I think it's an important film because it shows that a lot of this is still relevant today. And that we still have a lot of work to do to move the needle forward".
In the Movie, King, who was closeted at the time, meets her long time lover, Hairdresser Marilyn Barnett, played by Andrea Riseborough.
The chemistry between these two as they begin a passionate affair is well depicted, with King herself saying:
"The feelings, the emotions, the ups and downs... are all in this movie".
Critics are raving currently raving about the splendid "Battle of the Sexes" and it will be showing in cinemas worldwide from 29th September.
