Lesbian Prime Minister marches at Belgrade Pride.

Ms Brnatic, Serbia's first woman and lesbian Prime Minister joined thousands of LGBT marchers yesterday at the country's capital, Belgrade.

Amid tight security, she mingled with the proud marchers, who were carrying rainbow banners asking "For Change".

Ms Brnatic.

The first Belgrade Pride March was in 2001 and it ended with over 100 people being injured at the hands of Anti-gay Demonstrators. However, there were no violent incidents yesterday, as the police had cordoned off the city centre.

Prime Minister Brnatic said:

"The government is here for all citizens and will secure the respect of rights for all citizens." She went on to say "Diversity makes our society stronger".

There is still a long way to go however, as homophobia is still rampant in Serbia, as with other Balkan countries, and the LGBT community still faces harassment and violence. This is often incited by Right Wingers and Nationalists and the Church is not helping, with the Head of the Orthodox Church recently comparing Homosexuality to incest. Unbelievable!
