Is the new Doctor Who gay?

According to Michelle Gomez, who plays villain Missy in the series, the new Dr Who will either be gay or bisexual and there will be lot's of 'girl on girl' action.

This would not be the first gay character in the long running series' history as the Doctor's new assistant Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie, is a lesbian who falls in love with a alien.

Pearl Mackie who plays Bill Potts told Vanity Fair, “Growing up as a mixed-race girl who

wanted to be an actress, I didn’t see many people like me on the telly. I just didn’t. For me, being able to be a recognizable face of an ethnic minority is great. That’s important for me, so I imagine that for the young gay, and the older gay community, that it is important to see someone in a mainstream show that is gay.”

Jodie Whittaker to play 13th Doctor Who.

The British series 'Doctor Who' has been running since 1963 and the acclaimed actress Jodie Whittaker will be the thirteenth and first ever female Doctor.

Fans of Doctor Who are busy debating whether she will be gay, bi or pansexual with some die hard fans explaining that the Doctor is actually asexual and incapable of falling in love and having sex.

Whatever the case, Jodie Whittaker, who played Beth Latimer in the award winning Broadchurch, is sure to become an iconic role model to many young girls. In an interview with the Daily Mail, she said, "It feels completely overwhelming, as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you're told you can and can't be."

Whittaker will make her first appearance as the Doctor in a Christmas Special to be aired on Christmas day.
