Cheryl Maas  -  Snowboarding

33 year old Cheryl Maas will be representing the Netherlands for what will be her third Olympics.

In the 2006 Games, she came 11th in the halfpipe and 20th in slopestyle in the 2014 games.

The two-time World Champion is considered to be one of the greatest female Snowboarders ever and was the first woman to land a 900 in slopestyle competition and the first Dutch woman ever to win a medal at X Games.

               'Rainbows and Unicorns'

 

At the 2014 Russian Olympic Games, Cheryl was the first Athlete to make a statement for gay rights. 

Waving her rainbow and unicorn covered glove in front of the cameras, it was a symbolic stand against Putin's anti-gay laws, which made it illegal to promote 'non-traditional sexual practices' in public.

Cheryl is happily married to former Norwegian Snowboarder Stine Brun Kjeldaas, who she met at the X Games in Aspen in 2005. They married in 2010 and now have two beautiful daughters, both conceived using the same donor.

"We had an instant connection. I've always said 'Your vibe attracts your tribe,' and she and I share the same love of life and live for the moment attitude."
